A Thousand and One nights

...........INTRODUCTION...........

From April ,17,1975 to January ,7,1979 Cambodia nearly lost everything –even intellectuals because Pol Pot who was the leader at that time carried out a massacre to all kinds of people .
The cruelest regime also destroyed all infrastructures. Education system was also eradicated even libraries and books which were inanimate things.
After getting out of the black era, the new government tried to rebuild all had lost including the Education system ,too.
Although Cambodia emerged from the killing field of Pol Pot ‘s genocidal regime , it did not mean that it had complete peace .The civil war still continued .The toppled Pol Pot’s loyalists still fought at along the Cambodia border in the west of the country and Cambodia itself was also in communist rules.
AfterPol Pot’s day ,in the communist run government international language – especially English language ,were prohibited the education system needed all students had to learn Vietnamese or Russian language But young people waned desperately to know English language .Most of them always went to English classes which were opened unofficially and they sometimes were arrested to jails or fined.
Even so ,no one was worried about arresting or fining , they still learned what they wanted ,not government wanted.
Lack of English books became their matters and it was scarce to find English books in towns or cities.
during that time ,I was one of the students who like learning English language .i always went to piles of rubbish in front of or behind offices in Phnom Penh Capital.
Fortunately ,one day i found a pile of paper which was just taken out of an office of a department .It was a pile of paper and old books together ,And I found a few Cambodia table –books .The books I found were quite old and some parts were burnt or torn .One of them was Arabian tale. a 1001 nights ,that had been translated from English language by a Khmer writer .The book had two parts, one was Khmer language and the other was English language and most part of English language was torn and lost.
The story made me really interested .After i reading in Khmer I decided to retranslate into English because it was very important for Khmer people –especially youth.
Nothing can disturb or stop us if we strongly decide to do what we think good or right.
with helps from a few friends who are from overseas ,this books is accomplished and it can be as same as its original copy.
This book was printed to distribute free to students ,in Cambodia ,who are learning English language.
I hope that this book will help its readers to improve their language .if our country has a lot of human resource of English language ,it will be easier to develop the country to be as prosperous as many countries in the third world .
I would also like to tell you that I am an invalid left leg man. My leg went invalid by Polio disease at the age of 5. Although I am invalid ,but my heart is not so same as my leg .I try to do what I can do to help who I can help with my work during my life time .
In conclusion ,I wish you for happiness and good lock forever.
